Ophthalmological Procedures
LASIK Eye Surgery
Overview: LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) is a precise laser vision correction procedure designed to treat nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Using advanced laser technology, a flap is created in the cornea, allowing for gentle reshaping of the underlying tissue to improve visual clarity without glasses or contact lenses.
Before, During & After: Patients undergo a detailed eye examination and consultation prior to the procedure. The surgery itself takes about 15 minutes for both eyes, is pain-free, and requires only topical anesthetic drops. Post-operative vision typically improves within 24 hours, though mild dryness or light sensitivity may persist briefly.
Travel Planning: Most patients can fly within 48 hours post-surgery, but a 3-day stay in Greece is recommended for follow-up and comfort.
Cost: From €1,200 per eye.
Cataract Surgery
Overview: Cataract surgery involves the removal of the cloudy natural lens of the eye and replacing it with a clear intraocular lens (IOL). It is one of the safest and most effective eye surgeries globally, with rapid recovery and permanent visual improvement.
Before, During & After: A thorough eye evaluation is followed by local anesthesia and a 15-30 minute outpatient procedure. Most patients notice improved vision within 1-2 days. Sunglasses are advised post-surgery, and follow-up is essential.
Travel Planning: A minimum 4-day stay is suggested for both eyes, including check-ups.
Cost: From €1,500 per eye.
Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
Overview: While primarily aesthetic, blepharoplasty also has ophthalmological benefits by improving visual field in patients with heavy or drooping eyelids. This outpatient procedure rejuvenates the eye area while supporting better sight.
Before, During & After: A detailed facial and ophthalmic assessment precedes the 30–60 minute surgery. Recovery includes minor swelling and bruising for about a week. No bandages needed.
Travel Planning: Plan for a 5–7 day stay to ensure optimal healing before air travel.
Cost: From €1,800 (both upper and lower lids).
